"Man töte dieses Weib!"

Ten years ago I went to Siena with my parents. Shown on the cathedral's font was the story of Salome and my dad who is a musician told me the tale behind her as it is depicted in the opera "Salome" by Richard Strauss. It touched me deeply and I wanted to draw a picture about her. Unfortunatly I hadn't the skills yet to realize my thoughts and frustrated I gave up and forgot about her.
Some days ago I finally had the opportunity to see the opera by myself and the feelings I had about Salome's tragic story came back. During the past ten years my drawing skills evolved a lot, so I gave the idea about her a new try.
In this work I wanted to show her last moments before she gets executed - her beauty even though she is only fourteen but also her madness, her despair and her bloody wish - the head of Johanaan.
